Effects of Industrial Clusters

Verden

Benefits of being part of an industrial cluster;

  1. Market benefits – by protecting themselves from competition and by increasing its market share. In a cluster, you can distribute the risk on projects by allocating costs on a number of actors who work on the project.

    NCE Subsea can provide support in the establishments of projects in the cluster, and help ensure that the project get public funding.

    We can also reduce uncertainty related to market activity by organising relevant conferences and seminars. In January 2009 we responded to the worldwide economic situation when we arranged a meeting about the financial situation in the petroleum industry.
  2. Adaption and control of uncertainty – by establishing multiple points of contacts in collaboration with other actors in the cluster. A product range can be better adapted to the marked based on information from the cluster.

    We give our members the possibility to create informal points of contact with other actors in the cluster.
  3. Learning opportunities – by creating an arena for coupling of different skills within the cluster. Members can learn based on experiences in other companies, copy well-functioning processes, or consult with other companies in the cluster.

    NCE Subsea organises seminars and lectures, helps member companies cooperate on projects, and helps create stronger link between R&D institutions and companies in the cluster.
  4. Management and internal simplification – as cooperation with other companies are simplified, one can achieve cost savings.

    It is important to NCE Subsea that the department of the member organisations relevant to the cluster are responsible for cooperation and distributing information. The entire company and management need not be involved. The result is a simpler internal control that creates direct contact between relevant persons in the various member firms.
