The subsea industry has a need for engineers and technologists from various disciplines. A bachelors degree in engineering is three years of study. To get accepted into such studies you must have either a major in science from high school, two years of vocational college or a preparatory course for engineering.

Bergen University College offers a Bachelor’s degree in Underwater Technology – Maintenance, Modification, Operation. The three-year program provides an introduction to planning, operation and maintenance of everything defined as subsea installations.

The program provides basic skills in topics such as operations and maintenance, marine operations, hydraulics and measuring techniques. Special topics may include risk analysis, condition monitoring, instrumentation and sensor technology, etc.

A great deal of practical training takes place in laboratories and workshops of the companies in the industry. Students are guaranteed training on modern equipment and the transition to employment after graduation becomes less demanding.

There are also other relevant degrees in engineering elsewhere in Norway and abroad, particularly in Scotland and the USA. Bergen University College offers exchange programmes in Australia, Brazil and Scotland.
