Underwater Technology - Maintenance and Operation

The Bachelor's program Underwater Technology – Maintenance and Operation is a unique degree, and the only subsea-specific bachelor’s program in Norway. The program has a combination of subjects targeted specifically for maintenance and operation in the oil industry.
A subsea engineer works with the maintenance and operation of oil and gas installations on the seabed, also known as subsea installations.
Underwater installations are the future of the oil and gas industry. Among other things, new oil fields are too deep for traditional rigs to be used.
The program
The program is interdisciplinary and provides basic skills in maintenance and operation. Students are trained in subjects such as machining, electronics, automation and instrumentation.
In addition, students gain knowledge on subsea technology, well technology, maintenance and operation, logistics and procurement, oil hydraulics, as well as seals, connectors and valves.
The Bachelor’s program is closely linked to local subsea industry. The studies are located at Straume in the municipality of Fjell.
This specialisation enables the engineer to solve cross-disciplinary projects in industries related to petroleum, and also other areas where maintenance and operation is needed.
